Privacy Policy

The Wellbeing Protocol, has created The Wellbeing Protocol app as a free app. This service is provided at no cost and is intended for use as is.

 

The purpose of this privacy policy is to let users of The Wellbeing Protocol mobile application know when we may collect personal information and what we may do with it. The Wellbeing Protocol is committed to complying with privacy laws (see: New Zealand Privacy Act 2020). We do not use, share or disclose personal information collected or received through the app except as set out in this policy.

 

If you choose to use our app, then you agree to the collection and use of information in relation to this policy. Please read this policy carefully as it will help you make informed decisions about sharing your personal information with us.

What data do we collect 

The Wellbeing Protocol collects personal information that you provide to us. The personal information we collect can include the following:

 

Profile data

Profile data consists of your first and last name and your mobile number. 

Voting data

When recording voting responses within the app we need to associate your name in our database to your votes to ensure a fair voting process. This voting data linked to your name will be kept anonymous.

Usage data

We may use a range of third party services to help us understand how you are using the app. This data will be collected via small text files commonly known as cookies that are sent by the app and stored on your device to collect information about how you are using the app. This data will be viewable by The Wellbeing Protocol team and is aggregated so that it does not identify you personally. 

How do we use your personal information 

 

We will use your personal information in the following ways:

  • To help identify, verify or contact you in relation to the account creation process or respond to any issues you may be experiencing.

  • To help identify you to other users of the app. When you join a community in the app all members of that community will be able to see your profile data. Your profile data will also be associated with all of your activity in the app (except how you have voted)

  • Your anonymised vote data may be aggregated to aid reporting to your community or funders. For example the community might find it useful to know how often it’s members are voting. When producing these reports we will implement appropriate sampling restrictions so we do not reveal your identity.

  • To deliver and improve the functionality of the application. For example we may use Third party services to aggregate your usage data so we can improve the app. The ‘Third party use of information’ section of this policy sets out in detail which providers we use.

  • To communicate relevant information via push notifications or SMS. You can manage your push notifications in settings.

 

Who will your personal data be shared with

 

Funders

 

By default we do not share your personal information with funders. However in some instances you and the members of the in app communities you are part of may agree to a funder viewing data relating to your communities funding decisions. In this instance the personal information such as your name may be visible to the funder.

How do we keep your data safe

 

We have implemented reasonable security safeguards to protect the security of any personal information we collect and store against any loss, access, use, modification, disclosure, or other misuses. We use large global service providers with strong security practices to host the IT services used to provide The Wellbeing Protocol App and to store your personal information. This includes Google’s Firebase service whose servers are not based in New Zealand. However, please also remember that we cannot guarantee that the internet itself is 100% secure. Although we will do our best to protect your personal information, transmission of personal information to and from our App is at your own risk.

Commitment to indigenous data sovereignty

 

The Wellbeing Protocol acknowledges and is committed to uphold indigenous peoples' right to data sovereignty as recognised in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP). 

Māori Data Sovereignty

 

We recognize and respect the Principles of Māori Data Sovereignty as set out by Te Mana Raraunga. We are committed to respecting these principles and will seek to ensure that your personal information is handled in a way that aligns with them.

We will work with relevant communities to ensure we uphold this commitment. 

 

Your options for controlling, updating, or requesting the deletion of the information we collect

 

You have the right to:

  • find out from us whether we hold personal information about you

  • access that information; and, if applicable

  • request corrections to that information

The Wellbeing Protocol app may have links or references to third-party websites or material. This privacy policy does not apply to those websites, and any information collected by such third parties is governed by that third party’s privacy practices or policies. We accept no responsibility or liability for the content or privacy practices of any third-party websites.

Retention and deletion of personal information

We will not keep your personal information for longer than is required for the purposes for which the information may lawfully be used. 

Children’s Privacy

 

This policy does not address anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13 years of age. In the case we discover that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we immediately delete this from our servers. If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so that we will be able to do necessary actions.

Third party use of information 

 

We use the following third parties to help understand how people are using the app so we can improve our service:

Google Analytics for Firebase

We use Google Analytics for Firebase, a mobile analytics service provided by Google, to analyse the usage of our mobile application and improve its performance. Google Analytics for Firebase uses device identifiers, which are unique identifiers assigned to your device, to collect information about your use of our application. This information may include your IP address, device type, operating system, and app version. The information collected by Google Analytics for Firebase is used to evaluate your use of our mobile application, compile reports on mobile app activity, and provide other services related to mobile app activity and internet usage. Google may also transfer this information to third parties where required to do so by law, or where such third parties process the information on Google's behalf. By using our mobile application, you consent to the processing of data about you by Google in the manner and for the purposes set out above. If you would like to opt-out of Google Analytics tracking, you can do so by adjusting the settings on your device.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

 

We may amend and update this privacy policy from time to time by posting a revised version on this page. Any changes will take effect from the date the updated version is posted on this page. By accessing our app after that date, you will be deemed to have accepted the updates to this privacy policy.
